MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAWalpurgis Eve, or Valborgsmässoafton, is on Thursday, April 30th!

Originally, Walpurgis Eve was a celebration of the coming of spring with dancing, singing and even trick-or-treating throughout the towns. Farm animals were let out to graze and bonfires were lit to keep predators at bay.

Today the fires are still lit at dusk and people still gather around them to celebrate. For students, the school year is almost over this is an evening of welcoming spring and everyone is looking forward to the lazy days of summer. You will see them in their characteristic white caps, many in choirs singing songs welcoming the long awaited spring.

Join in the festivities! Bonfires and choirs can be found in many of your local parks.

If you are in Stockholm, Skansen is a sure bet – they have the biggest Walpurgis celebrations in Sweden!
