After spending a lot of resources on talent acquisition, the last thing you want is for it to trip on the last stumbling block with getting a Swedish work visa rejected. Government compliance is a key component for successful talent management and relocating employees. The talent pool in Sweden is often too small when you need to close a skill gap, reaching out for international employees is the only way to go and that is why it is crucial to know how the process of applying for a work visa works and how to prevent the reasons why a Swedish work visa is rejected.

Once you've found the right talented individual, it's time to make sure the right Work Visa to Sweden is in place.

  • Firstly, if a work visa is needed, you need to establish if the employee has been here on a business visa when interviewing. If that is the case, this needs to be explained on the application or you run the risk of denial as it can look as if the person is here while the application is pending.
  • Secondly, it is very essential to know if the employee has an employment history in Sweden. This can severely hinder the application unless all has been handled professionally. A previous work history can be a  show stopper for an approval through no fault of the applicant. Problems can arise due to faulty permits, salary promises that haven’t been realized, missing pay slips, durations which don't match the first application and so on. The employment has to be squeaky clean and well documented.
  • The salary is too low (as deemed by the Swedish Migration Agency).
  • The necessary insurances aren't in place or have a set up that isn't acceptable. It is not for instance acceptable to have the Swedish Welfare system as the medical insurance.
